When it comes to holidays, I always love a bit of wood and a bit of luxe. And when there is a touch of wellness added to the mix, well you have me at hello.
Hotel Eder is a spa hotel based in the Maria Alm ski town in Austria. As you can see, there is plenty of wood and plenty of luxe, so I was a very happy lady. The family run hotel sleeps 80 guests with rooms spread out over 3 floors. The interiors are just to die for and combined with the service you receive, it’s a favourite destination of mine for a ski holiday. Here are a few other reasons why:
THE INTERIOR DESIGN
The hotel had the interiors recently redesigned and the use of natural materials, clean lines and natural green walls gave the hotel a welcoming ambience. As soon as I walked into the hotel, I absolutely fell in love with the modern twist to the traditional alpine lodge as well as the elaborate amounts of greenery.
Hotel Eder offers a variety of stylish apartments also feature living rooms, full kitchens, and dining rooms with fireplaces. Most of the rooms overlook the snow covered town of Maria Alm. I stayed in a room which had high ceilings and exposed wood beams along with a steam shower and plenty of space for luggage. It was so cosy and warm each evening and the bed was very hard to get out of each morning.
The restaurant offers breakfast, lunch and dinner serving up some hearty meals and vegetarian options. The food is fresh and seasonally sourced with a variety of dishes changing throughout the week. I loved that there was a hot water and lemon station at breakfast – something you don’t often see in a hotel.
The hotel bar on the lower ground is a popular place for Après ski and also a touch of dancing in the evenings. I’m usually totally wiped out after a day on the slopes so I opted for the lounge area with an open fire and hot chocolate. No need to get dressed up for the bar but you might want to pack something smart casual.
THE WELLNESS OASIS
Situated underneath the hotel, the wellness centre is a zen haven for the exhausted skier. There are three types of saunas, steam and relaxation chambers all set amongst a wooden, mossy oasis. It’s perfect for your post ski wind down session or to indulge in a massage treatment. Relax in the hanging chairs, cradle a hot cup of tea and potentially drift off to sleep in the cosy booths. It’s very popular with guests, so book your treatments in advance. There’s also an indoor outdoor heated pool so don’t forget to pack your swimsuits.
If you feel you need a little more exercise than a day on the slopes, Hotel Eder’s gym is generous inside and well equipped. It was the perfect space for some cool down yoga or a light jog in the morning.
THE LOCATION – MARIA ALM
Hotel Eder is right smack bang in the middle of town, located next to bakeries, cafes and retail shopping. It’s also a 2 minute walk to the local slopes and and there’s plenty of ski hire stores close by. The hotel is a pleasant 50 minute drive from Salzburg airport which makes it a quick and hassle free commute if coming from London.
From Maria Alm, you have access to over 32km of ski pistes – all part of the Hochohnig region. I skied there in January this year and the snow was plentiful and fresh. I definitely want to make a trip back there this ski season.
You can count on free wifi, free parking, a free heated ski storage area, a games room and climbing wall, occasional live music and a sun terrace. What more can you want?
THE HOTEL EDER EXPERIENCE
When you stay at Hotel Eder you can expect to feel as comfortable as you would at home even though you are on holidays. There’s a warm welcoming vibe, cosy yet gorgeous interiors and proximity to everything you need for a skiing holiday. Can see why it’s my favourite?
