This July, I completed a 100 hour advanced yoga teacher training with Tara Judelle and Scott Lyons. The Body Module is the first part of a three part series that they have co created together to form the Embodied Flow school of yoga. I had been looking for my next advanced teacher training since graduating my first training and was very drawn to their methodology.

ABOUT THE SCHOOL

After a bit of research on both founders and their style of teachings, something about their unique offering had me at hello. The Embodied Flow school of yoga brings together different systems of philosophy,  asana, free movement, embodied anatomy and somatic phycology. It’s a complete different approach to any type of yoga I have practiced in my 15+ years of studying yoga.

Tara and Scott are looking to give a three dimensional sense of what is yoga and attempt to answer deep philosophical questions like what am I…..who am I….. and what is my authentic self.  They are providing a space to let their students meet their embodied self through our bones, muscles, organs, cells and to increase their resiliency and agency and ultimately to lead them into a meditative space that joins action with movement.

When I came across the Body module that was to take place in Greece, the timings, duration and location were perfect for my schedule and I immediately signed up.

ABOUT TARA AND SCOTT

For over 27 years Tara has experimented with all forms of movement flow, from dance to Tai Chi, to movement improvisation and ultimately yoga.

Tara’s classes focus on the discovery of embodied anatomy, bringing to the yogic tradition a scientific yet playful study of the movement vocabulary of the body and the ever-expanding perceptual awareness of the human mind.

Her knowledge across philosophy, yoga, embodidedment practices are equally impressive and her presence in and outside the classroom is warm, cheeky and playful. Her classes throughout the training were innovative and creative – some of my favourite classes to date. Tara carefully guided us throughout the Embodied Flow principles with ease and grace and her passion for the content was contagious.

Dr. Scott Lyons is a holistic Clinical Therapist, Mind-Body Medicine practitioner and co-founder of Embodied Flow™ Yoga. He is funny, down to earth and doesn’t take himself too seriously which is why everyone warms to his personable character. Along with teaching on the training, Scott also offers a plethora of 1-2-1 coaching and healing sessions which I was lucky enough to take part in during the course of the 2 weeks in Paros.

Together they are a dynamic duo who left us wanting more and more. They always provided are safe place for their students to explore and dive into their pasts, pain and untapped potential.

MY EXPERIENCE

The two week experience for me was nothing less than life changing. I didn’t learn any new yoga poses, or any new Sanskrit, but what unfolded was something I never had expected. When I signed up, I knew I wasn’t signing up for a set of new rules like Yin or Rocket training, but I was signing up for a more spiritual journey into the self. I unravelled layers and layers of pain, discovery and learnt to re condition the way I think and teach. 

Both Tara and Scott are welcoming, approachable and down right entertaining. I couldn’t have wished for two engaging and thoughtful teachers.
