Last Wednesday morning, I woke up nice and early to go and teach a vinyasa flow yoga class for the launch of ShakeIt’s new yoga mats, at London’s Skygardens. 36 levels up in the sky, the sun rose over the city skyscrapers as we practiced to a soothing and relaxing soundtrack.
I themed the yoga class around kindness. Having kindness in your heart, kindness with your thoughts and also speaking kind words to yourself and others. We spend too much time criticising and scrutinising ourselves, wishing we could change things about our lives. Cultivating a kindness practice on and off the yoga mat can help us feel more grateful and positive.
So these yoga mats are pretty special. How you ask? Well first of all it comes in my favourite colour (aqua green) and you can have them personalised with your name or initials (like mine pictured below). They are also antibacterial and non-slip, unlike anything I have practiced on. So hop on over to ShakeIt to take a look at their range of studio and travel mats.
After the event we were treated to breakfast from Pip and Nut, Moju Juices and Oppo ice-cream which was all delicious. Not to mention the overflowing goody bags filled to the brim with yummy wellness and health treats.
As you can imagine, I was so nervous all week long before the actual event. Teaching yoga in a small cosy studio or in an office is very different to teaching at the top of one of London’s tallest buildings. I was having nightmares that the microphone didn’t work (and it actually didn’t on the day), and that I slept through my alarm. It’s funny how the mind plays tricks on you.
I want to say a big thank you to the team at ShakeIt for inviting me to teach, and also to the lovely yogis that came and practiced. Also a big thank you to my teaching assistant Lauren who helped give adjustments throughout the class.
Less than 1.5 years ago, I left the sunny shores of Australia to embark on a new adventure living here in London. The experiences and opportunities that have come across my path with the blog and yoga have been mind-blowing. All I can say is set your goals sky-high, as you never know where they will take you. Have an open mind, and open heart and wish for the impossible.
If you’re looking to come to one of my classes, currently I teach corporate yoga (I come to your office) or private classes. If you would like to know when my next yoga event, yoga retreat or workshop is coming up, please sign up to my newsletter. I have lots coming up this year including a hiking and yoga adventure in Germany. More details on that soon.
And here is a super cool video of the event thanks to the ShakeIt team. Enjoy!
