After booking a sailing trip to Greece last month, I wanted to add on a weekend of luxury in Mykonos to finish off the trip. I then began the search for the perfect place to stay for the weekend. I had been to Mykonos twice before but both trips were “girls euro trips,” need I say more. As I was travelling with my partner this time, I wanted something a little more intimate and out of the hustle and bustle of Mykonos town. My search began with googling “luxury boutique Mykonos sustainable green hotel” and Rocabella Mykonos popped onto the page. “What have I stumbled across here,” I thought to myself. “Absolute pure delight!” It’s always nice to know that even when you are on holiday, you can have the least impact on the environment. And the Rocabella is right up there with a strong approach to eco-tourism.
The Rocabella Mykonos is a small family boutique hotel which sits on a serene mountainside overlooking the Aegean Sea and Agios Stefano beach. About a ten minute car ride from Mykonos town, the Rocabella feels more like your (luxury) home away from home than a hotel. From the reception area to the organic themed gift store, to the individually designed rooms, nothing has been designed or created without a lot of thought. The smooth lines of the traditional Mykonian architecture paired with the idyllic view of the sea will have you turning your instagrams of the Rocabella into postcards.
The accommodation is just hands down beautiful with each of its room evoking it’s own character and features. You can have your own jacuzzi and private sundeck and the beds are like sleeping on cloud nine. Every little detail has been thought about and I loved the organic/eco friendly approach to tourism. The view/ pool area is probably the highlight of the hotel – with almost 360 degree panoramic views of the sea you feel like you are in a dream! Along with four honeymoon suites, the Rocabella has nine individually designed rooms plus eight deluxe rooms each with it’s own balcony and jacuzzi. I was lucky enough to view a few of the different room designs and setups in between guests checking in and out. The rooms designs have a mix of nautical influence with a bohemian flair (my favourite!).
The Rocabella is in a perfect location situated on a hill about a 10 minute car or quad bike ride into Mykonos Town (Hora) which is perfect for shopping, nightlife or dinner. It’s also a 5 minute walk to St Stefanos beach for a lazy day in the sun.
The food and presentation was stunning and delicious! You can see by the pictures – this is food you want to take photos of! For breakfast, you are overwhelmed with choice. A good “overwhelmed.” You can order an omelette or pancakes and/or graze over the elaborate selection of traditional and continental choices including freshly squeezed orange juice. The choice is endless. It’s truly magical as you sit and look over the Mediterranean sea sipping on your freshly made cappuccino. We also had lunch at the restaurant one day which was superb. Make sure you try some of the signature cocktails and mock-tails at the poolside bar. They won’t disappoint.
The service I received was beyond impeccable not to mention so welcoming. They make you feel part of the Rocabella family. The staff are super friendly and go beyond the call of duty. All of the staff take time to know both my partner and I by our first name. Allan, the front of house manager was so helpful with all of his restaurant suggestions and things to do around Mykonos. He sat down with us on our arrival and spent time going through the whole map of Mykonos and helped us plan each day. He really is a star and no request we had was too difficult. Also the owner Roy, took time to chat with us throughout our stay and was so friendly and welcoming. The staff helped us rent a vehicle during our stay and also organised airport transfers. The service alone is a reason to go back every year!
There is really no reason to leave the hotel during your stay. The sparkling aquamarine pool is dotted with day beds and sun lounges and with that view – it’s just breathtaking. You also have an amazing day spa with so many treatments to choose from. I opted for a sports massage and my therapist Elizabeth was just super professional and had the most healing hands. She really made me feel renewed! The hotel facilities also include a fitness centre, a cute pool side bar, a small library and two outdoor restaurants that have one of the best views in Mykonos. There is even a telescope for some star gazing.
Of course. They made us feel like family and treated us like a King and Queen. Who wouldn’t want to be waited on day and night??? There is no other place to stay in Mykonos when visiting. All I wish is that we had stayed longer!
I can’t say how much I enjoyed staying at the Rocabella Mykonos Art Hotel and SPA. The rooms, the view, the food and the two baby kittens named Roca and Bella (no explanation needed) – it all exceeded my expectations and more!
Room Tip: Opt for a room with your own jacuzzi and sun deck, book in for a massage, eat at the restaurant and stay longer than you plan!
