Last week, I was invited down to the Lakes By Yoo to check out their newly launched weekend wellness package. I didn’t wan’t to go alone (let’s be honest, these things are much more fun with friends), so I extended the invite to my fellow wellness girlies.
Set in the heart of the Cotswolds within a 650 acre estate, the Lakes By Yoo is a collection of luxury Lake houses available to rent for weekends or holidays. There are a variety of waterfront or woodland houses to choose from, ranging from “special” to “one of a kind” to suit your group’s requirements. The glorious Barnhouse was our home for the stay, and glorious it was indeed. Here are a few of my highlights from the wellness weekend trip:
Stepping inside the two storey Barnhouse, the juxtaposition of glamour and modern design encapsulates the senses. Designed by Kate Moss, the elegant interiors and imaginative architecture are worthy to be on Grand Designs. Earthy tones, hints of sparkle and floor to ceiling windows, we knew we were in for a treat. We all settled into our own bedrooms, each with their own en suite.
The master bedroom resembled the likes of a fairy tale, featuring a four posted mirrored bed covered with a luxe white throw. This will do just fine! It was a pinch myself type of moment for sure.
The weekend wellness package at Lakes By Yoo is completely customisable to you (which I love). Before you arrive, you can choose what type of exercise is included, what type of food is cooked for you and what your schedule looks like. This definitely sets this package a part from the competition, as it can be as flexible as you want.
The weekend break coincided with the hottest weather I’ve ever experienced in England, therefore our workouts were taken al fresco. Katie our wellness host lead us through gruelling functional and HIIT workouts in the oversized garden (closer to the size of a football field). Exercise is a daily part of my routine, but girl did Katie make us all sweat. For six wellness bloggers, we were all put through our paces and left us feeling pretty pooped. We were also treated to an afternoon poolside yoga session which couldn’t be more serene if we tried.
Katie completely blew us away with her deliciously tasting and restaurant quality presented meals. I requested a mostly vegetarian with fish menu before we had arrived which was high in protein and low in processed foods. For breakfast we were wooed with a spread of protein pancakes, avocado and eggs and homemade granola with yoghurt.
Post workouts, we were treated to ice cold smoothies which hit the spot after exercising in thirty plus degrees. Protein balls and vegan snacks were also stocked in the fridge in case of an afternoon hunger strike. My favourite meal of the break was the miso glazed salmon on a bed of asian slaw topped with a poached egg and sesame seeds. We were all talking about this dish after we left!
As wellness has been part of my life for so many years, I frequently invest in treatments on a regular basis. My mum was also a masseuse when I was a kid so I’ve had my fair share of massages. As part of the wellness package, we all had the chance to experience the Orchid Spa at the Lakes By Yoo. I opted for a Bamford Body treatment which stated on the treatment menu that it would awaken and penetrate the muscles and energy channels of the body. Yes please!
Charlotte was my therapist for the treatment and I can hands down say that it was best experience I’ve ever had. And that’s a big claim to fame. Her magical and healing energy took me to another planet and I left feeling renewed, rejuvenated and ready to take on the world. There is also stunning facilities at the Spa including an indoor pool, outdoor tub and sauna – so make sure you get good use of them.
Within the gorgeous countryside setting, the Lakes By Yoo encompass six lakes – which means water activities! I grew up on the beaches of South Sydney in Australia, so where there is water; you will find me. I couldn’t resist taking a canoe out for an exploration with Lauren and Kim to see what we could find. We were all dying from the sweltering heat (said no one ever in England), so it was off for a swim in one of the lakes.
On our first attempt of launching into the water, our canoe quickly started to fill up with water. I tried to brush it off with “ahh you’ll always get some water in the canoe” but then Kim continued in a very calm but authoritative voice “um, guys, how much water is some water.” Our second attempt was much more successful. We arrived at the diving pontoon in the middle of the lake where we continued to bomb into the water like kids. The water was cool and refreshing – just what we were after. At the lakes, you can also go fishing, sailing, stand up paddle boarding and zip wiring.
I couldn’t have asked for a more magical, luxurious and relaxing weekend wellness break. The food was on point, the workouts were challenging and the setting was just idyllic. I wouldn’t change one thing about our experience, except that I wish we had stayed longer.
I am so lucky to be invited to so many wellness breaks with the blog, and I would have to say this has to be right at the top in terms of a short luxury wellness break. Our wellness host Katie was super knowledgable, exuded a whole lot of positive energy and was a pleasure to be around – she ended up being just one of the girls.

PS – Did you watch the video from the trip? Go inside every room of the house and see what we get up to.
This experience was gifted however my thoughts and opinions are my own.
